At the time my then fiance (now husband) was living in Tenerife, and I in Norway, while both of us were studying and working. To complete his studies he had to do an internship in a city not too far outside of Berlin. Luckily for us the internship lasted over the easter holiday, so he got a few days off around Easter Sunday, and we decided to meet up in Berlin! Because of the holidays both plane and train tickets were expensive, and I ended up taking a bus from Oslo to Gothenburg, Gothenburg to Copenhagen and from Copenhagen to Berlin. It was a looong journey, taking in total about 24 hours each way.. The map below shows the shortest route by bus, but of course, a bus would never choose the shortest route.

Despite the long journey it was all well worth it! We lived at a youth hostel (http://www.aohostels.com/en/berlin/hostel-am-zoo/hostel/info/) right in the centre of Berlin and got to visit many great sites such as

Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church

The Berlin Victory Column

The Sony Center

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe or the Holocaust Memorial

and The Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor)

…amongst other things. We also had time to visit the Checkpoint Charlie Museum and take a guided bus tour around the city. How can you not get inspired by a weekend like that?

I drew the roughs in the top picture while I was on the bus going back to Norway. The impressions from the trip needed to be expressed somehow, and that was how I did it.
