This is a project from my first year studying fashion. My inspiration was the Clarence Pier in Portsmouth. My focus was mainly candy floss, popcorn and ice cream and carusell rides, as you might be able to tell from looking at the moodboard (first picture). I decided to make a jacket to challenge myself, as I had never done anything like that before.

Looking at the pictures from my toiling I can see that I was quite off with the first patterns I made, and I think I would have had to do a bit less adjustments now than I did then. But I managed to get there in the end! with a lot of trial and error…

I still don’t have any pictures of the jacket completely done, but I’m aiming to have some sort of photoshoot of my projects so far in January, so “stay tuned” for that!

The main thing I’d want to change about this jacket would be the lace, I didn’t have time to source the type of lace that I wanted so had to use some commercial polyester lace that just didn’t look or feel how I wanted it.. I imagined it more old fashioned.. like something Lestat would be wearing in Interview with a vampire.. or to be more specific, a 17th century lace. Basically a handmade silk or cotton lace, made before the industrial revolution.. The lace I used here is just too white, light and stiff, not off white, heavy and soft as it should be. Oh well! I still think it’s a cool jacket though. A bit crazy, but I like it! Would look great as a spring summer jacket with some white jeans for instance 🙂
