This is the first in a series of short interviews I will do with my some of my classmates about their studies and final collections studying “Fashion and Textile with Enterprise” at the University of Portsmouth. Enjoy!

Meet Sarah Jane Jackson, 22 year old Fashion and Textile Designer from Machester!

Can you tell me a bit about your background from before university?

I have always had a creative mind. I was encouraged and inspired by my older
Brother, Dad and Grandma and I was always permanently attached to a
pencil, drawing and designing everything. Throughout school it
continued, and all the way through college, where I studied Art,
Textiles and Psychology.

Do you do mostly Fashion or Textile Design, why?
I specialise in both Fashion and Textiles, because I think both are
equally as important as the other when considering fashion design.

What was your final collection inspired by?
My final collection is called Retorta Conscientia and was inspired by Identity, focusing facial expressions and features, and also body parts such as the brain.

What do you feel is the most important thing you’ve learned these three years?
I’ve learned so much at university, it’s hard to pick out just one
thing. I guess what should be seen as the most important is that I’ve
learned to have confidence in my own designs, without that your
designs are nothing.

What about your collection do you like the most?
I like the fact I got a mixture of prints to work together all in one garment.

Who inspires you?
Helen Storey, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Anna Lewis

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I hope to have my own label and have a successful children’s and adults range

Thank you Sarah! And good luck in the future 🙂
