I’m pattern-cutting and sewing again!

Graduation ball is coming up next Saturday, and I have nothing to wear! I also know from experience that I can never find anything in the stores, so yesterday I decided my “easiest” solution would be to make my own dress! I haven’t made anything for myself since I started my degree, so I’m really happy about doing this. The last dress I made for myself was my wedding dress in 2009.

I already had fabric I could use; I bought it to make a dress to go to a wedding last summer, but never got around to making it…

I’m using an old dress (that was too small, had a broken zip and had been used beyond what’s good for any dress) as a base for my pattern. I simply cut it apart, traced the pieces and adjusted the pattern as needed to make it fit, and to look like my illustration. I’m adding flare to the front so it can also be used as a maternity dress later if I’ll need it. Finding a nice maternity dress is even harder than finding a normal dress, so might as well plan ahead as I know I want more children sometime in the future!

I’ll post more pictures when the dress is done 🙂

Update: go here to see the finished dress 🙂
