Yesterday I went fabric sourcing to Brighton and it was a great success! They have quite a small selection of fabric shops (If you don’t count the furnishing shops etc) but they are good quality! My favourite of the ones I went to was definitely Ditto fabrics (21 Kensington Gardens). They don’t have a huge store, but most of the fabrics they have are really good quality, many of them from fashion houses such as Prada, YSL, Dior, Donna Karen etc, and the prices aren’t bad either, most silks and cottons are around 7-10£ a meter and their wool knits, weaves and felts are around 12-15£ a meter. The pictures show all my samples, most of them I bought 35cm widths of, to have enough to experiment with prints, laser cutting etc, and to do some work on the stand, but some of the more expensive ones I just got a small cut off.

In “New Fabric Fair” (51 Gardner street) they also have a lot of different fabrics, but most of them are stacked on top of each other in piles, which makes it hard to feel them, and I was so happy with my catch at ditto fabrics that I only looked for trims and fastenings in New Fabric Fair. They did have some leather scraps for 2-3£ each in a variety of colours, so I got a few of those, as well as a range of different buttons. They have a lot of lace trims a and other stuff as well, but I’ll look at those next time around when I know more about exactly what I need.

Goldhawk road in London is great for fabric sourcing, but when sourcing other things than silks I think I prefer Brighton!
